As the sun dips below the horizon, the town of Castle Rock prepares for a glowing celebration of community and connection at the annual Pedal the Moon bike ride. Scheduled for Saturday, July 12, from 6:30 to 10 p.m., this event invites residents to don their bike helmets, decorate their rides, and embrace the enchanting twilight atmosphere along the East Plum Creek Trail.
An Unforgettable Family Experience
Families are invited to join the fun, with the bike ride departing from Castle View High School at 7 p.m. or opting for a shorter route from Douglas County High School at approximately 7:15 p.m. The journey covers around 6 miles of mostly flat terrain, making it accessible for riders of all ages and skill levels.
What truly makes Pedal the Moon stand out is the spirit of creativity and festivity. Participants are encouraged to embellish their bikes with lights and share in the joy of the evening. A decorating station located at East Plum Creek and Hangman’s Gulch trails will provide exciting glow-in-the-dark items, available on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring every bike shines bright.
Safety & Festivities: A Community Celebration
Safety is a top priority, so every participant must wear a helmet and have a functioning front headlamp as well as a blinking rear light. Once cyclists arrive at Festival Park, the gathering becomes a celebration with food, music, and glow giveaways, all under the moonlight. It’s a chance to relax, enjoy a warm meal, and connect with fellow community members.
Registration for this delightful outing is $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, and $14 for children under 12, which includes a complimentary T-shirt and dinner featuring a classic hot dog, chips, and a drink. To ensure participation, we encourage everyone to register by June 25, noting that prices may vary slightly due to taxes and fees.

After an evening of fun, families have the option to ride back or make arrangements for a one-way trip. Leaving a car at the park or coordinating pick-up is encouraged, making the evening as convenient as possible for participants.
